You are a work in progress

‘How long do I have to do this for?’
A question I get asked many a time. But there is no finish line. Do we not want to enjoy a good quality of life for a lifetime?

Fitness is much more than exercise. It’s a lifestyle.
And in this, we are all a work in progress.

When thinking of our fitness programs there are two important considerations to keep in mind.

  • Progressive workouts.  As we adopt a fitness lifestyle, with regular workouts it stands to reason that our fitness levels will improve. Then we need to ensure that our workouts also change to keep up with our increased fitness and gains.

  • Changing goals. Our fitness goals and needs will change over time. As we go through different decades of our lives, our fitness and health goals will change and so should our workouts.
Another factor influencing our choices will be new goals we may set for ourselves – a trek, a sport, a new outdoor activity – that would require us to vary our fitness programs.

Consistency is key.
There are no short-cuts. No easy fixes. Of course, you’ve heard this often enough!
To see lasting results your workouts need to be a regular part of your life. That means setting up a regular schedule and holding yourself accountable. Workouts are not meant to be done whenever you have some free time.  Again, for results you have to be consistent.

Enjoy what you do.
If consistency is key to seeing results, then your choice of workouts is critical. If you enjoy your workouts, it’s easier to ensure they become a part of your daily life.

Opt for Personal Training.
One-on-one sessions will help you workout more effectively, with a focus on good form and injury-prevention. Staying motivated, accountable, and challenged specific to your needs are the other bonuses.

Change nothing and nothing changes.
If you’ve been working out but not seeing results, it’s time to change your fitness program and step out of that comfort zone. Often our choice of workouts is influenced by our friends or what may be currently trending. However, those may not necessarily be the right workouts for you.

There is no finish line.
Working out to stay fit and healthy is a lifestyle choice. There is no finish line because as you progress and move forward so does that finish line! It’s a lifelong relationship that will be very rewarding.  As long as you stay the course and remember – you are a work in progress. And that’s a great place to be – staying challenged and motivated for the next level!
